Two weeks in Italy: First time travel

Delicious food? Wonderful people? Stunning nature? We've found all of this during our first two-weeks trip to Italy. It was pretty difficult to choose between the cities and places to visit, because we wanted to both relax and to see all the sightseeing which is Italy popular for, to try all the great food they serve and to see these wonderful and friendly people.

ITINERARY

General Information

It would've been a pity not to visit Roma in the first trip to Italy, so we did it! Some can say that four days is very few days, but we've spend them wisely, visited most of the "must go" places and had several beautiful dinners afterwards.

Accommodation

Arnobio Vatican Suites

Wonderful place with a super-friendly and helpful host. It's a bit out of the city-center, so you probably would need to use bus. However, not too far from the Vatican.

Activities and Sights

Colosseum

A "must to go" place in Roma. We've bought tickets beforehand using: coopculture.it and also visited Roman Forum.

Spanish Steps, Piazza di Spagna

It was too crowded during the day. I'd suggest going there in the early morning.

Trevi Fountain

Too crowded during the day. Come here in the morning. The fountain itself is marvelous!

Vatican Museum

An another must-to-go place. It's impossible to write about this place, you have to see it yourself. Going there another time, I would prefer night excursion, because it's very crowded during the day. Make sure to buy tickets in advance, we've used tickets.museivaticani.va for that..

Foro Romano

We've been there in the evening, almost before the closure. Enjoyed this place very much.

La Sagra del Vino da Candido

Beautiful restaurant with traditional Roma cuisine. Don't look for any pizza here!

Salvatore Di Matteo Le Gourmet

Delicious Naples style restaurant. One of the most delicious pizza we've tried during our trip. This place was recommended by our apartment's host.

Castel Romano outlet

A half-day tour to one of the biggest outlets around Roma.

Beautiful square with fountains.

General Information

Beautiful small village on an Amalfi coast. The landscape and nature are great! It's not crowded and touristic as Amalfi city, so we enjoyed our peace and quiet there.

Accommodation

La Zagara

There's a bus coming up to the hill. Don't make our mistake and go there by foot with the heavy luggage. Apart from that, this place is beautiful: having a breakfast in the lemon garden, what could be better?

Activities and Sights

Positano trip

We took a boat to Positano. The place is wonderful! A bit crowded.

Climb to Rovello

Make sure you're ready to do that! It's pretty long climb. But it worth it in the end ;)

Babel wine bar deli & art

We've stumbled across this place during our Rovello climb. Nice selections of cheese, friendly stuff and tasty food.

Pasticceria Sal De Riso

Giardiniello restaurant

A bit expensive, but decent restaurant.

Transportation to next station

We took a ferry from Amalfi to Ischia in the morning. From Minori to Amalfi we took a taxi.
General Information

We've chosen this place to have some rest after the Roma running. Went to the Poseidon thermal gardens, enjoyed the food and sea. The island is not very expensive comparing to Roma and other places we've been.

Accommodation

Hotel & Residence Matarese

Very nice hotel owned by a family. Marianna is one of the most beautiful and helpful hotel owners we've ever met. Nice rooms, good location, pretty good breakfasts.

Activities and Sights

Poseidon Thermal Gardens

One of the best places we've been during on the Ischia. A lot of natural thermal pools, very clean and relaxing.

Giardini la mortella

Nice place to visit in the heat of the day. We've got there by bus.

Transportation to next station

Ship | 00:30 Hour | 52 USD | Overnight

We took a SNAV ferry from Porto di Casamicciola to Porto di Napoli.
General Information

Some say that it's a very noisy and even a "dirty" city, but if you look from the other side - it's very lively and has it's own wonderful charm.

Accommodation

Da Polly a Piazza Amedeo

Cannot recommend this place. Location is pretty good, but we were not impressed by the accommodation itself, despite of the high Booking rating.

Activities and Sights

Pompeii

A must-to-go place during being in the Naples. Make sure to take sunscreen cream, proper shoes for long walking and maybe even an umbrella if going in hot month. There's different routes depending on how long you would like to spend there. Don't forget to visit Roman amphitheater where Pink Floyd had their famous live concert (Live at Pompeii).

Napoli Sotterranea (Naples Underground)

Wonderful guided tour in the Naples underground. Guide was super-friendly and held a very informative and funny tour. More information: napolisotterranea.org

That was a wonderful trip and we enjoyed our first time in Italy so much! Definitely returning back to visit more cities.
