DESCRIPTION

Ireland is a wonderful country for road trips and hiking. Green hills and rough cliffs, wild bays, high moors and lakes, as well as lonely beaches - you can find all of this in Ireland. Since a friend of mine was studying in Ireland, we went on a short road trip through Ireland together during the holidays. Here we did great hikes, went to quaint pubs and got to know the hospitality of the Irish. We started in Dublin and rented a car right at the airport.

HIGHLIGHTS

ITINERARY

  • General Information

Waterford is a port city in southeast Ireland and the oldest city in the country. The city was founded by Vikings in 914. For us this was the first stop as our friend studied here. The city is perfect as a first stop, as you can make day trips to Tramore and Kilkenny here.

Tramore is a small coastal town with a typical Irish beach. Well worth a trip for a quiet stroll on the beach and surfing.

      Kilkenny, Ireland
      Kilkenny, Ireland

Kilkenny is a medieval city southeast of Waterford. Perfect for a day trip. Be sure to check out St. Canice's Castle and Cathedral in Kilkenny. It is also worth strolling through the city and marveling at the many old buildings.

    Transportation to next station

    • car Car | 00:00 Hour | 0 USD | Overnight

We rented the car at Dublin Airport and drove it from station to station. Driving in left-hand traffic is a little unfamiliar at first, but you get used to it over time.

SUMMARY

For us this was the perfect route for a short trip to Ireland. Nature lovers in particular get their money's worth here. A road trip with a rental car through Ireland is definitely recommended. Even in just five days you can experience a lot and discover the highlights of Ireland.
