DESCRIPTION
In a week we drove around Iceland on the ring road. We tried to see all highlights on the way. For the island round trip we rented a small car (Hyunday i10) directly at the airport. We always stayed at campsites with our tent. This vacation was one of the most beautiful and eventful. Iceland is just a beautiful island.

ITINERARY
General Information
We started in Reykjavík but stayed at a campsite a bit outside. This first stop served us exclusively to buy food for the next few days, because there are still large, reasonably cheap supermarkets in Reykjavík. Groceries are very expensive on the rest of the island. We visited Reykjavík itself at the end of our trip. Reykjavik is also the starting point for the Golden Circle, a circular route with several sights that can be driven by car.

Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Krýsuvík, 42, Iceland
On the way from the Blue Lagoon to Reykjavik, we stopped briefly at the Krýsuvík geothermal area. For this you have to take the street 42. It's a very nice way.
Kerid Crater, Iceland
As part of the Golden Circle, we stopped here briefly. You can walk around the crater in 45 minutes.
Strokkur, Haukadalsvegur, Iceland
We also made this sight as part of the Golden Circle. A short stop of 45 minutes is enough to get an impression of this beautiful geyser. Free parking spaces are available.
Gullfoss, Iceland
This sight is also part of the Golden Circle. Gullfoss is a breathtaking waterfall. A short stop of an hour is enough to get an impression. Free parking spaces are available.

Skogafoss, Iceland
A very nice waterfall. We hiked all the way to the top. From there you have a wonderful view of the sea.
Dyrholaey, Vik, Iceland
A short stop of 30 minutes is enough to enjoy this great view overlooking the black beach and Reynisfjara beach. Free parking spaces are available. You can also drive up the mountain for an even better view. For the mountain, however, a four-wheel drive car is recommended, but you can also do without it;)
Reynisfjara Beach, Iceland
A short stop of 30 minutes is enough to get an impression of these beautiful stone formations. Free parking available.
Solheimasandur Plane Wreck, Vik, Iceland
The parking lot is right on the street again. This time it takes a little longer to walk to the attraction (approx. 40 minutes each way). The barren landscape and the plane wreck are very fascinating.
There is a campsite right in front of the waterfall. The waterfall itself is very beautiful and it's all the cooler when you wake up in front of it in the morning.

Wonderful crevice. You can also take a short hike along the crevice here
Falljokull, Iceland
We booked a glacier tour at the Skaftafell parking lot. The tour lasted 1.5 hours. First we took the bus to the glacier and then we went for a hike on the glacier with ice shoes and pimples. This was one of our absolute highlights.
Jökulsárlón, Iceland
Wonderful ice lake. You can walk a little along the lake or even book a boat tour. For us it was a stop of 30 minutes. completely adequate.
Stops along the road
It is worth stopping every now and then along the road. The nature in Iceland is simply beautiful.
Vatnajokull, Iceland
The national park is perfect to bridge the waiting time for the glacier tour. We did a little hike of 1.5 hours to the waterfall. But you can also spend several days here.

Selfoss, Iceland
This waterfall is a little further away from the ring road. The road to the waterfall is mostly made of pebbles, so it's not that pleasant to drive there. The waterfall is still very impressive.
Hverarond, Iceland
Another geothermal area. It's right on the street. It is definitely worth a stop.
Hverfjall, Iceland
A very beautiful volcano. Run-up takes about 45 minutes.
Dimmuborgir, Iceland
Nice stop for a hike through this park. The special thing here are the rock formations. The park is right next to the volcano.
Parking Höfði nord, 848, Reykjahlíð, Iceland
This attraction is also right next to the volcano. You can drive around the lake via road 838 and have a wonderful view. Here, too, just stop in between and enjoy.

We stayed in Borganes a little before Reykjavik. Since it was cheaper here and the place is right on the ring road.
Activities and Sights
Thingvellir National Park, Selfoss, Iceland
Very nice park, which can normally also be visited as part of the Golden Circle. However, we saved it for the end.
Garður Old Lighthouse, Suðurnesjabær, Iceland
Nice lighthouse on the southern tip. Since it is located near the airport, it is very easy to plan it as the last sight before departure.
Sun Voyager, Reykjavík, Iceland
Very interesting landmark of Reykjavik with a beautiful view of the sea.
Stroll through Reykjavik
Just stroll a little through the city and capture the atmosphere. Especially the center and the port are interesting.
Very extraordinary church. Definitely worth a visit.

SUMMARY
All in all, this was one of my nicest vacations. The 7 days were very busy and full, but we also experienced a lot. Next time I would hang out for a few more days and also look at the western fjords and the backcountry. In general Iceland is very expensive, but if you do camping and cook by yourself then it is okay.
