DESCRIPTION

On the way back from Asia we made a short stopover in Dubai. Dubai is ideal for this because you can experience a whole new world in a few days: Arab culture, deserts and beaches meet a true super city with numerous skyscrapers. We were in Dubai in September and it was very hot. However, you can also explore the city at this time of the year - you just have to cool off every now and then in one of the many shopping centers ;)

HIGHLIGHTS

ITINERARY

  • General Information

Dubai is a really interesting city with tons of activities. The Dubai metro is a good way to get from A to B. In an emergency, you can always use the Uber app.

    Accommodation

Wyndham Dubai Marina, Al Seba Street, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The hotel is located in the beautiful marine district. From the airport you can take a taxi to the hotel in about 30 minutes.

    Activities and Sights

Dubai Marina, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai Marina, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Here you can take a great walk on the promenade. Of course you can also book a boat tour if you want. Also, you can visit the public beach or the Dubai Marina Mall.

Dubai: Day tour in the desert
      Day tour in the desert

We booked this tour through Getyourguide. The tours mostly cover the same thing and end in the same camp. The tour starts in the afternoon. We were picked up at the hotel in an off-road vehicle. First there was a marked out quad route. Anyone who wanted could ride a quad for an extra charge. Since we weren't interested in that, we just waited - it's just part of the sales program. Then it got interesting: we drove into the desert by car and slid over the sand dunes (also called sanbashing). A real experience! We also stopped briefly to "sand-surf". Then it went to the camp where there was traditional food and an evening program took place. In the end it was a typical tourist tour, which we don't really like. Nevertheless, the tour was an experience and if you want to visit the Arabian desert, you have little choice. In September it is very hot in the desert, luckily the car was air-conditioned and in the evening it cooled down a little.

The Dubai Mall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The Dubai Mall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

We took the metro to the Dubai Mall to do a little shopping. Really a huge mall. You can combine a visit to the mall in the evening with the Burji Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain light show

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, Jumeirah Street, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The palm is an artificially created sand island, which has the shape of a palm. Really interesting to drive across the peninsula - a human masterpiece!

Dubai Creek, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai: Half day tour through the city to see the sights
Half day tour through the city to see the sights

We booked a half day tour through getyourguide. During the tour we were picked up by bus in the morning and then drove to all the important sights. These were: Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, driving on the palm (peninsula made of sand), government building, Dubai River and Jumeirah Mosque. If you have little time and want to see all the important sights, this tour is definitely worth it.

Dubai Fountain, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai Fountain, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The Dubai Fontaine starts every day at 1 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. and every 30 minutes from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. I recommend going to a show in the evening. With the many lights in the background, the whole thing is a really great experience.

SUMMARY

Dubai is ideal for a short stopover. In a few days you can immerse yourself in a completely different culture and see many special world-famous sights. If you want to go on holiday here (> 5 days), you should definitely arrive at the right time of year, as otherwise it is too hot.
